Federated learning, semantic communication, reliable machine learning
Zerun Niu is a Master of Philosophy (Engineering) candidate at the University of Sydney, supervised by Prof. Nguyen Tran in the DUAL Group. His research focuses on reliable and efficient AI systems, spanning federated learning, wireless semantic communication with large AI models, and trustworthy machine learning under sparse or noisy supervision.
He is a Research Assistant with the DUAL Group and a Casual Academic at the University of Sydney and UNSW Sydney. His work on distributionally robust semantic communication has been published in IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, with further papers on federated deep equilibrium learning and reliable crowdsourced label aggregation under review. He also designed, built, and maintains the DUAL Group’s website.
